Meet your fellow “Championship Players”.
Name: Cam Harris (Gold winner)
Height: 6’2″
Age: 20
Years Playing Ultimate: 7
Current Team’s Playing on/for: GOAT, Studs, University of Guelph
Favourite Motivational Quote: “Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.”
How Cam got to the level he is at – “I started in high school, then proceeded to juniors and then open ultimate in the Toronto system, eventually to Goat and Team Canada. Each summer I have looked to improve and challenge myself by playing on a better team against better competition”.
What you would recommend to someone else in the league that wants to make it to where you have in the ultimate world? Play a lot of organized ultimate. League is a great way to practice skills, but you need to play on a touring team with an experienced leader to learn the skills and knowledge.
How to try out / who to speak with. To tryout for Toronto teams check out http://tuc.org/view/Pages/Touring. There are numerous open, women’s, and mixed teams, and a junior team.
How do you train? For training, cardio is a big part. It’s one thing to play one or two games in a day, but playing at tournaments with 4 or 5 games on consecutive days is tough.
